SWIFT African Regional Conference 2015

Throughout the year SWIFT hosts Regional Conferences and Business Forums to bring local communities of financial industry professionals together. The SWIFT Institute is proud to support these events through the inclusion of academic content and speakers.

The SWIFT African Regional Conference takes place on the 5th – 7th May in Cape Town. The theme for this year’s conference is “Africa – Seizing the Opportunity”. By 2050, sub-Sahara Africa will have a larger and younger workforce than India or China. The continent is blessed with plentiful land, much of it still uncultivated, and an abundance of natural resources. Combine these and there is potential for global competitive advantage.

The SWIFT Institute contribution to this event takes place on Wednesday 6th May, when we will be presenting the panel session discussion on Financial Inclusion.  The banks involved in the 4-year GAFIS project (Gateway to Financial Innovations for Savings) have aggressively tested new approaches to attract and better serve poor savers. What are the results and conclusions of the GAFIS project? How can big banks help small savers? Is there a sustainable business model for banks to offer better financial services to the poor? In this discussion you will hear from the project manager, Bankable Frontier Associates, as well as the banks involved in the project, and a professor of development finance who will provide an academic’s perspective.

You can find full details of the event and register to attend on www.swift.com or through the links above.

We look forward to seeing you in Cape Town.
