Build the Future

Welcome to the Business Forum London 2016

Now in its sixth year, the Business Forum London is SWIFT’s largest regional event and is now well established on London’s financial industry calendar. Attracting 1,000 delegates – including senior leaders from across banking, securities, market infrastructures and corporates – this one-day event is the perfect opportunity to meet your industry peers and discuss the latest developments in financial technology.

The SWIFT Institute supports the Business Forum London with a dedicated stream running throughout the day.  First up is a look at the 20th Anniversary of Crest, the UK CSD.  Dr. Hermann Rapp, Senior Lecturer will present his research looking back at the creation of CREST and where it is today. John Trundle, CEO, Euroclear UK & Ireland Ltd and SWIFT Institute Advisory Council member, will then moderate a discussion on lessons we can learn from CREST.  He will be joined by Dr. Rapp, Iain Saville, Founder and first CEO of CREST, and Peter Norman, author of Plumbers and Visionaries: Securities Settlement and Europe’s Financial Market.

We will then showcase the top ten contenders for the SWIFT Institute Challenge 2016, who will pitch their ideas on identifying a solution that would enable a bank’s customer to send money cross-border, via their own bank to an individual in a country where there is little or no banking infrastructure.  The winner will be chosen by those in attendance, through digi-voting.  Harriett Balldwin, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, will present the winner of the challenge with the prize of 15,000 GBP and the chance to participate in SIBOS Geneva 2016.
